Compare and contrast stats

I was lucky enough to get in on Google Analytics before it shut everyone else out (can you call yourself lucky?), but anyway, I’ve been tracking my blog with both Analytics and StatCounter, as I mentioned yesterday. On yesterday’s performance alone (for an average day so far, keeping in mind that I’m picking yesterday as the stats would be available in Analytics), I noticed almost a 100% difference between the two, with Analytics reporting over twice as many unique hits and total pageviews for the day than StatCounter.

Anyone else noticing this?

A basic question for you – do you have a blocking cookie for your own machine set on Statscounter. Cause if you do then that might account for part of the difference?

nope, not at this point in time anyway, which puzzles me a little. i don’t have analytics installed on any other site so i can’t really compare to be perfectly honest!

Just had a look at yesterday for Pure Play on the 3 stats services I use. Here are the results Unique Visitors/Page Views:

    Statscounter: 58/118
    Analytics: 49/126
    Measuremap: 51

So not too different – and with Statscounter not including my visits then they could all be close enough.

On yours it could be that they are measuring a day differently with different time zones and if you have heavy traffic from the US in the evening that could get put into today by Statscounter as they are Irish?

quite a possibility. might leave it slide a few days and take a closer look at it. i’ve activated the blocking cookie at statcounter, everything else seems to be in the right place. cheers keith

yeah, well, it stopped registrations anyway. they’ve made it invitation only for a while, if you’ve a code they’ll let you in, either that or you wait for them to open back up to the public
