Today Is NOT A Day For Power Failures

While the weekend is great planning wide, today is NOT a day to be getting power failures.

In the past week we’ve had three power outings in the building, something which happened earlier this summer at the fault of one of the companies in the estate but when you’re neck deep in a project on a Sunday afternoon and you’ve just made a great breakthrough the last thing you need is the sound of alarm bells ringing in the building reminding you that your computer screen is now black and whatever you had on it before it turned black is well and truly gone.

Note to self – invest in another UPS.

Yup – going all “proper” here as well with a UPS and NAS disk on the way. I had an outage just before Christmas and it frazzled my PC for a short while. That was once too many – even without loosing work or data!

He he. We’ve got the main server in the building covered with a UPS, the backup one blew before Christmas so we’re short one for our own space here. Last big outage we had in the summer killed our first server stone dead. The handy thing there was regular backups. The pain in the arse about today is when you’re on a roll you tend to forget to hit ‘save’ every few minutes, those few minutes of coding often proving vital to what you’re doing too!

Still, at least the power doesn’t stay out for too long (second one so far today and no doubt there’s more on the way).
