New podcasting logo?

Is this the face of the new PodCasting logo? Reading MonkeyBites this morning it seems there was a contest held in Germany of all places to determine a universal podcasting logo? The result? An RSS icon wearing a set of headphones….

Not sure how effective this kind of design would be. Personally I would rather see something a little more iconic, in the style of the new RSS icon. Somehow, adding a set of headphones just doesn’t do it for me!

Update

Alan from Spoiltchild / Pinstripe has made this offering (opens in new window) in retaliation. Certainly a lot more along the lines I was thinking…

I agree, it is a little too complex to be an icon/logo.
Something like this would be more usable: http://www.spoiltchild.com/new/podcast_logo.gif
    (use as you wish 🙂

Quite snazzy indeed I must say…. certainly something a lot more appealing!

Hmm..I like it but its not very practical, definitely should be simpler.

It is nice Sean, and as an image i prefer it.
However as a functional icon is does not work. Try squeezing it down to a 16 x 16 icon to display on your website and see if it is still readable/understandable.

Oh yeah.. didnt think of that! lol! I suppose once you shrink it it would be a pain..

Icon number one would look better on printed material. But I have to go for Alan’s design when it comes to the web. Smooth. Not all icons need to be standardized though. There’s always personal styling choices people make on their websites. Wouldn’t be surprised to come across something even better one day, that hasn’t been discussed.

Thats quite true, was having a think about it myself, have a logo in mind thats fairly simplistic. I think for things like RSS feeds and podcasting its nice to have something standardised, simply to be able to distinguish it on it the web!
